My husband and I drove from Ft. Fisher to our home, which takes a solid 30-40 minutes even though it’s in the same small city. Ft. Fisher is at the tip of what is essentially a tiny peninsula since the Cape Fear river snakes from the sound and divides New Hanover county from Brunswick. The drive from Ft. Fisher back into Wilmington takes us through two of the major beaches in the area – Kure Beach and Carolina Beach.
My husband’s family lived near Carolina Beach for a couple of years, so he knows the area fairly well. I’ve lived in the Wilmington area for 7 years, but I have spent absolutely no time on the south side, which is why I have never eaten at at most of the local’s favorite hole-in-the-wall restaurants. Keeping this in mind, my husband decided we should eat lunch at a place called Bowman’s Seafood Restaurant in Carolina Beach on the way home.
I had a fried whiting burger with tater tots. Real southern, but it was good.
